TOURNAMENT RULES AND PROCEDURES


 

These Tournament Rules and Procedures are designed to be simple and fun, and to ensure a fun and gratifying experience for everyone involved.  We encourage the release of billfish.  Enjoy, and thank you for your participation and support!

 
1.   This is an HONOR-BASED, charitable tournament.

2.   Awards will be presented to the TEAM rather than an INDIVIDUAL.

3.   DAY 1 – Tournament will begin with a shotgun start in front of Buena Vista Beach Resort. 

      DAY 2 – Boats may not proceed north of Punta Pescadero, nor south of Punta Colorado, until 
                     after tournament control has done the roll call.

 4.   All boats must respond to the 7:00       Channel 69 to be eligible.  Latecomers will become eligible upon checking in with Tournament Control.

5.   Tournament Control will announce “Lines in the Water” following Roll Call.

      You must have responded to Roll Call or checked in with Tournament Control

      prior to putting your lines in the water. 

6.   “Lines out of the Water” will be announced by Tournament Control at  

7.   All hook-ups must be reported to Tournament Control at the time of hook-up,

      with the type of fish, if known, and location.  If it is later determined incorrect

      information was given, the change must be reported immediately. 

8.   In the case of a tie, the first team to acquire the most points in the least amount

      of time, becomes the tie-breaker. 

9.   Every effort must be made to revive a Marlin or Sailfish.  If these efforts are

      unsuccessful, the fish is not to be discarded, but brought back to shore. 

10.  Billfish are officially released when the swivel touches the guide tip of the rod or

       the leader has been touched by the hand of the angler or deckhand.

11.  IGFA rules do not apply to this tournament.  More than one angler may

       participate in the catching of a fish. 

12.  Leaders and/or double lines may not exceed twenty (20) feet.


13.  Any dispute must be reported to Tournament Control the day of the occurrence

       for determination in accordance with these rules.

14.  Awards will be given based on the most points for Billfish, the largest Dorado

       and the largest Tuna.

15.  Points:  300 – Broadbill

                     250 – Black or Blue Marlin

                     200 – Striped Marlin

                     150 – Sailfish
                    
100 – Wahoo
                     Dorado and Tuna 1 point for every pound above minimum weight

16.  Weigh-in for Tuna and Dorado will be at HotelBuena VistaBeach Resort.  The

       scale will close at




Optional Jackpots for Tuna & Dorado will be a 50/50 split

 

 TD Jackpot: 

 

1)      The optional tuna/dorado jackpot is purely a biggest-fish category with scoring calculated at one point per pound. The largest tuna (yellowfin) or dorado caught over the two-day event will win the jackpot. Minimum weights for this category are as follows:
Yellowfin tuna — 20 pounds; dorado — 15 pounds. Only teams registered in the optional jackpots are eligible for cash.

 

2)      In the event that in the $100 jackpot there is no winning tuna that 50% will roll over to the largest dorado and if there is no winning dorado that 50% will roll over to the largest tuna. If there is no winning fish in the $100 category the money minus 15% will be returned to the anglers registered in the $100 jackpot.

 

3)      In the event that in the $200 jackpot there is no winning tuna that 50% will roll over to the largest dorado and if there is no winning dorado that 50% will roll over to the largest tuna. If there is no winning fish in the $200 category the money minus 15% will be returned to the anglers registered in the $200 jackpot.

  

Protests:


All protests must be stated in writing and accompanied by $100. All protests will be settled the day of the incident.  All protests on October 18 & 19th must be in the hands of the tournament's designated rules official by 7 p.m. on the day of the alleged incident unless there is a protest regarding a fish that comes to the scales late.  The protesting party, as well as the accused team members, captain and crew, must be present in any official protest hearing.  If the accused or protesting teams fail to show up for the protest hearing, they forfeit their right to be heard and will abide by the decision of the official tournament judges.  All decisions of the official tournament judges are final.
