EDUCATION

Our feeling is that only through educating the local population can we truly impact this problem, and so our
emphasis is on education. We believe this change will be a slow process and must begin with the children.
Each year we make a short but fun and informative presentation to the school kids from Kindergarten through
Secondary Schools in the East Cape area.

Instruction is given one class at a time by a local resident volunteer,  accompanied by
side-kick "Solovino," a Scooby Doo-type doggie character who keeps things fun and
   interesting.

We ask how many of the children have cats or dogs, how many of those have been
spayed and/or neutered, then offer our service to them. Depending upon the age of the
students, we have a discussion regarding the health benefits of doing so.

Colored pictures and other visuals are used, along with bookmarks, A.L.M.A.  pencils,
coloring books, crayons and other leave-behinds are sent home in hopes of sparking the
interest  of  parents. After two short years,  we are thrilled with the impact of this school
program, and  high school and adult programs are now in the works.

In the past few weeks,  classes have been given to over 800 students, in our local area.
