FASHION SHOW FUNDRAISER
A BIG HIT

FOR LOS BARRILES ANIMAL GROUP

Over 100 guests attended the recent “Spring for Spays” Fashion show fund raiser held on April 4th. Big Tony of Zippers provided his beautiful beachfront restaurant for the event.  A silent auction consisting of art work, jewelry, day cruise, round of golf and several pieces of clothing were up for auction with proceeds benefiting the A.L.M.A. Humanitaria, A.C. of Los Barriles. Spirits were high as each person received a raffle ticket for chances to win other fun items.  The first-time event was a huge success for A.L.M.A. (Animal Lovers of Mexico) and these animal enthusiasts are planning to do it again next year.  Total proceeds of almost $1200 will be used to provide spay/neuter, vaccine and emergency medical services for domestic animals of the Los Barriles area whose families qualify for assistance.

Sheila, President of A.L.M.A, started the afternoon off with some straight to the point facts about the importance of spaying and neutering. She described in detail how the funds raised would be used to provide medical care for many animals in need. Attendees were treated to a colorful fashion show with a handful of models showing off a new clothing line by Pepita of Cabo San Lucas and custom jewelry by Chris Rogers of Los Barriles.

Guests then enjoyed a gourmet meal of carne asada or coconut fish and refreshing beverages. Auction items were donated by Bernadine Johnson, Pepita, Cabo San Lucas Country Club, David and Janel of Los Barriles and Cathy Schaffer. Without such fabulous community support Spring for Spays Fashion Show wouldn’t be possible. A.L.M.A. Humanitaria, A.C. has been providing spay/neuter and vaccines for local animals since 2003.  They do not have a facility to use as a shelter and rely on foster care givers to provide a safe haven for local animals in need.  ALMA's main mission is to provide low or no cost spay/neuter and vaccine for local animals. Since Jan. 1 of this year over 110 dogs/cats have been spayed or neutered at the Amigos Veterinary Clinic in Playa Norte which is independently owned and operated by Dr. Jorge Bravo of San Jose.  And if you drive through the Buena Vista, Los Barriles area, the difference this group has made can be seen.

For more information on ALMA Humanitaria, AC, please see our website at www.almacares.com   ALMA meets monthly on the second Tues. of each month on the front patio of Roadrunner Cafe  at 9:30 am.  Newcomers and visitors are always welcome!
